Truck Fire Causes Major Delays On I-75 In Allen

Lanes of northbound and southbound I-75 are closed near McDermott in Allen as responders work to extinguish an 18-wheeler fire.

ALLEN, TX — Updated: Northbound lanes of I-75 have been reopened.

Original: Authorities in Allen are working to extinguish to an box truck fire that occurred Wednesday afternoon on Interstate Highway 75 near the intersections of McDermott and Bethany.

Some lanes are closed on both the northbound and southbound sides of I-75, but some traffic is passing on outer lanes. Patch reader Gordon Illausky said the fire was the result of a crash between two large trucks. He said the driver of one truck was transported to a hospital via ambulance, but another involved driver was uninjured.

Illausky reported hearing a loud boom and seeing a plume of black smoke rise above the scene. He said the crash caused a portion of the concrete barrier between north and southbound lanes to crumble.
