Donald Trump's Virginia State Chair: Corey Stewart

Announcement Monday puts the Prince William County Board chair in a key role for the GOP presidential primary frontrunner.

WOODBRIDGE, VA- Corey Stewart is the state campaign chair for Donald J. Trump for President, according to an announcement from the campaign Monday.

Stewart is the chairman of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors. Trump, a billionaire businessman who is making his first run for office, is the national frontrunner in the Republican presidential primary.

Trump visited the Prince William County fairgrounds earlier this month with a rally that drew hundreds of supporters.

“Mr. Trump’s message of returning America to greatness, reviving prosperity, and once again becoming a symbol of hope and freedom to a dangerous world is being felt in Virginia, and all around our country,” Stewart said in a statement. “Mr. Trump is the only candidate who can get it done and I am proud to join the campaign.”

In a November survey by the University of Mary Washington, Trump’s support was at 25 percent among Republican-leaning voters in the state.

Virginia may be a key state for Trump and other GOP hopefuls coming out of the early primary states. Virginia primary voters go to the polls on March 1.
