1,529 Patients Currently Hospitalized For Coronavirus In Alabama

After reporting about half the number of new cases of COVID-19 Monday after more than 2,000 Sunday, Alabama approaches 90,000 total cases.

MONTGOMERY, AL — After confirming ore than 2,000 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, the Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 1,116 new cases Monday. Currently, 1,529 patients remain hospitalized from the virus.

Total, Alabama has confirmed 89,927 cases of COVID-19, with 21,469 of those cases reported in the last two weeks. Earlier in July, the state was seeing two-week totals topping 23,000. The state has added more than 50 COVID-19 deaths to its total over the last three days, bringing the statewide fatality count to 1,590.

Of the nearly 90,000 cases of the virus confirmed in Alabama, 35,401 patients are presumed to have recovered.

Mobile County has seen the largest surge in new cases over the last three days, reporting 1,002 new cases over that time span. The county confirmed 532 cases Sunday, the highest single-day total of any county since the pandemic began.

Jefferson County added more than 400 new cases to its total over the weekend.

The counties reporting the most new cases Monday:

  • Jefferson County: 209 new cases; 11,859 total
  • Mobile County: 88 new cases; 9,086 total
  • Madison County: 82 new cases; 5,014 total
  • Tuscaloosa County: 62 new cases; 3,974 total
  • Montgomery County: 51 new cases; 6,249 total
