1 Dead, 4 Injured In Separate Birmingham Shootings Monday

Two shootings in Birmingham Monday night resulted in four people hospitalized and one person dead.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Two separate shootings were reported Monday night in Birmingham, with one ending in a fatality. In all, five victims were shot in the shootings - three victims in Kingston and the other two in Sun Valley.

The first shooting happened shortly after 9 p.m. on 18th Avenue N.W. and Sixth Way in the Sun Valley neighborhood off of Carson Road - not far from Sun Valley Elementary School. An Alabama Media Group report said police responded to the neighborhood on a report of multiple people shot. When they arrived, they found all three victims had been transported by private vehicle to area hospitals.

Birmingham police spokesman Sgt. Johnny Williams said the victims were two men and a woman. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased as Shaneia Causwell. She was 28.

Later Monday evening, two people were rushed to Birmingham area hospitals after shots rang out Monday night in Birmingham’s Kingston public housing community.

An Alabama Media Group report said gunfire broke out during an argument about 10:30 p.m. Two adults were taken to two different hospitals with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.
