117 Pounds Of Marijuana Seized On I-22

Jefferson County Sheriff's deputies seized 117 pounds of marijuana Monday night during a traffic stop.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - Two men are in custody after a traffic stop resulted in the seizure of 117 pounds of marijuana. Just before 10:30 Monday night members of the Sheriff’s Highway Safety Unit conducted a traffic stop on a pair of cars traveling along I-22. The cars were traveling together and had been speeding.

During a consent search, two duffle bags were discovered in each of trunk. One pair of the duffle bags contained 55 pounds of marijuana and the other pair contained 62 pounds of marijuana. The estimated street value of the marijuana is $117,000.

Both drivers were taken to the Jefferson County Jail to await formal charges of Trafficking Marijuana. Their names are withheld pending those charges. The Sheriff’s Office Highway Safety Unit is comprised of deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Hoover Police Department.
