15-Year-Old Boy Shot In Birmingham's Thomas Neighborhood

A boy was shot while pulling weeds in a yard in the Thomas community in Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A 15-year-old boy has been hospitalized after being shot while pulling weeds in a yard in Birmingham's Thomas neighborhood. The shooting occured at approximayely 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.

An Alabama Media Group report said the teen was struck in the thigh with a bullet after exchanging words with the shooter. He was taken by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center and his injuries aren’t believed to be life-threatening.

A witness said the victim and a neighbor were picking weeds when another young man approached them and the victim and suspect exchanged words. Moments later, the witness heard "at least 15" gunshots.

Police said a possible suspect has been identified, but is not in custody
