167 New Coronavirus Cases In Jefferson County, 687 Statewide
Alabama confirmed 687 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, with 167 of those coming from Jefferson County.
MONTGOMERY, AL — More than 650 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Thursday by the Alabama Department of Public Health, and a significant portion of those new cases came from Jefferson County. Of the 687 new cases reported, 167 of them were reported in Jefferson County.
To put Jefferson County's Thursday numbers into perspective, no other county in the state reported even a quarter of Jefferson's total of new COVID-19 cases Thursday.
The state also confirmed 15 COVID-19 deaths, raising Alabama's fatality total from the virus to 2,176.

The ADPH also reported 8,900 COVID-19 cases among children ages 5-17 since March, and increase of nearly 2,000 cases in that age group since mid-August.

The counties in Alabama with the most new cases of COVID-19 reported Thursday:
- Jefferson County: 167 new cases; 17,013 total
- Shelby County: 41 new cases; 4,482 total
- Baldwin County: 39 new cases; 4,678 total
- Mobile County: 39 new cases; 12,403 total
- Calhoun County: 37 new cases; 2,652 total
