Here are the top three stories today in Birmingham:

  1. A 19-year-old has been charged with the drive-by killing of a 45-year-old Birmingham woman. Stephone Danie Byrd has been charged with capital murder in the shooting of Teresa Denise Coleman on May 7 in SW Birmingham. We originally reported Coleman was found unresponsive and soon pronounced dead with a gunshot wound to the chest at 32nd Street S.W. and Beulah Avenue. (AL.com)
  2. Alabama paramedics are needed for The World Games 2022 happening soon in Birmingham. The 11-day event will be held in July. "We are asking 30 paramedics per day, a total of 360 paramedics throughout the course of the World Games, to assist us and the daily operations of providing EMS coverage at all 17 sites in the city of Birmingham," said Birmingham Fire and Rescue Assistant Captain Matthew Lamonte, who heads up the EMS division. 3. Development of the $15 million, mixed-use Battery Phase II project in Birmingham's Automotive Historic District will resume after being put on hold because of the pandemic. "What seemed like a project full of unstoppable momentum quickly slowed with the multitude of world events. Fortunately, I met the Addicus team around that same time, and the chaos of COVID opened the door for an immediate partnership. I am thrilled to be partnering with a team of highly sophisticated financial and private equity professionals," said Magic City Slicker, LLC owner Ward Neely. (AL.com)
