JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL — Two men face charges in connection with a Jan. 21 deputy-involved shooting in Jefferson County. Raymond Esters and Keyvin Mallard are each charged with receiving stolen property and unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

Deputy Chief David Agee of the Jefferson County Sheriff's office said deputies attempted to stop a vehicle for a violation, and the driver refused to stop, eventually wrecking his vehicle into a tree near 91st Street North and 90th Place North.

The driver and passenger exited their vehicle and shots were fired at the deputies shattering the drivers side front glass of the patrol vehicle, Agee said. The deputies returned fire and both offenders were struck.
