2-Year-Old Dead, Mother Injured In Birmingham Shooting

A toddler was killed when shots were fired inside an apartment in Wenonah Thursday night.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A child was killed and his mother was injured when shots were fired into their apartment in Wenonah Thursday night, police said. The child has been identified as 2-year-old Major Turner of Birmingham.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin, of the Birmingham Police Department, said the shooting occurred at the Kimbrough Homes complex in the 2900 block of John Bryant Road. He said shots were fired into the apartment around 10 p.m., striking the child and his mother.

The child was taken to Children's of Alabama where he was pronounced dead.

The mother was hospitalized with injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening, Mauldin said.

Mauldin said no suspects are in custody and a motive for the shooting has not been established. Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact the Birmingham Police Department at 205-254-1764.
