2018 Jefferson County Commission Primary Results: 2 Runoffs Set

Two primaries will be decided in a July 17 runoff, with both featuring current Birmingham City Councilors.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - In addition to statewide offices and House of Representative seats, Jefferson County voters cast ballots for Jefferson County commissioners in Tuesday's primary. Districts 1 and 2 have no Republican candidates, so the Democratic primaries will determine who gets those seats. Districts 3 and 5 have no Democratic candidates, so the Republican Primary will determine those seats. District 4 has no primary and will be decided in the general election.

Jimmie Stephens defeated Rodney Watson in District 3 to maintain his seat, while Steve Ammons defeated former House member Jack Williams in District 5.

Runoffs appear likely for July 17 in Districts 1 and 2. Both runoffs will include current Birmingham City Councilors, as LaShunda Scales will try to unseat incumbent George Bowman. Councilor Sheila Tyson will face incumbent Sandra Little-Brown in a runoff for District 2.
