21-Year-Old Man Accused Of Killing His Grandfather

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in connection to a homicide May 12 in Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — An arrest has been made in connection with the May 12 shooting death of 68-year-old Jesse Johnson. Johnson's grandson, 21-year-old Antwon Jones, was taken into custody and charged with murder.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said Johnson was attempting to break up a domestic dispute when he was shot. This investigation has been deemed domestic in nature.

Johnson was found by officers lying in the road unresponsive with what appeared to be a gunshot wound, police said. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded and he was pronounced deceased on scene.

Jones is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with a $100,000 bond.
