2 In Custody After Officer-Involved Shooting

An officer-involved shooting is under investigation after an incident at an apartment complex in Birmingham.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — An investigation is underway after an officer involved shooting at an apartment complex in Birmingham Wednesday night. The incident occurred at 2024 30th Avenue North around 9:40 p.m.

Sergeant Johnny Williams of the Birmingham police said two North Precinct officers approached a car in the parking lot when a gunshot was fired from the area of the suspects’ vehicle. One of the officers fired back at the vehicle and a bullet grazed the arm of one of the suspects, police said.

Officers were able to take three subjects into custody at the scene. The injured suspect, identified as 23-year-old Demarieo McGee, was treated on the scene but refused additional treatment at the hospital. No officers were injured in the incident.

One of the suspects was released from custody Thursday night.

McGee is charged with attempted murder, and 25-year-old Monquez Johnson is charged with obstruction of justice.

The shooting investigation will be conducted by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation.
