A victim in a homicide early Monday morning in Ensley has been identified.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — The victim in a shooting death early Monday morning in Ensley has been identified. Police say 36-year-old Shontez Rhodes was found by police on the ground outside of his vehicle unresponsive suffering from a gunshot wound at approximately 1:14 a.m.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said officers from the West Precinct responded to a shot spotter call and citizens’ complaints of gunfire at Valley Road and Court I, which brought them to where Rhodes was found.
The preliminary investigation suggest the victim was having car trouble and exited his vehicle, Mauldin said. The suspect reportedly drove up alongside the victim in a black SUV and a brief exchange of words occurred before the suspect opened fire shooting the victim.
