5-Year-Old Child Injured In Birmingham Shooting

A child suffered a life-threatening gunshot wound in a shooting in Birmingham Wednesday afternoon.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A shooting Wednesday afternoon resulting in life-threatening injuries to a 5-year-old child. The shooting occurred on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive just after 4 p.m.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said the preliminary investigation suggests the child was an occupant of a vehicle traveling on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive when an unknown person in another vehicle fired shots striking the child.

Mauldin said no suspects are in custody, and a motive has not been established in this investigation.
