66-Year-Old Woman Shot And Killed In Elyton Village

Birmingham police are investigating a Sunday homicide in the Elyton Village housing community.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A woman was shot and killed in the Elyton Village housing community in Birmingham Sunday. The victim has been identified as 66-year-old Fannie Carter.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said officers were on the scene responding to a report of shots fired in the area just after 2 p.m. when they heard multiple gunshots nearby. Officers found Carter dead in 4th Court West alley. o\Officers also found another gunshot victim who was taken to a nearby hospital.

Mauldin said the preliminary investigation suggests that an altercation took place on Saturday, at the Alabama State Fair, and that participants met up in Elton Village to finish the fight, which resulted in shots being fired.

The two adult victims wounded were caught in the crossfire, Mauldin said. No suspects are in custody
