675 New Coronavirus Cases, 6 Deaths Confirmed In Alabama

The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed that 7,700 kids ages 5-17 have tested positive for coronavirus since March.

MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 675 new COVID-19 cases Monday, and reported six new fatalities from the virus. The fatality total since the beginning of the pandemic in March has now reached 1,950.

Total, the state has confirmed 110,769 cases of the virus, with 7,700 of those cases occurring in children between the age of 5 and 17, accounting for 7 percent of all cases since March. Many schools opened throughout the state last week and Monday, which could affect those numbers as the school year progresses.

Alabama has administered 204,782 COVID-19 tests in the last two weeks, with 11,279 of those tests coming back positive. This 14-day total is about half the two-week total at the beginning of Gov. Kay Ivey's mandatory mask order.

Counties reporting the most new COVID-19 cases Monday:

  • Jefferson County: 67 new cases; 14,688 total
  • Montgomery County: 51 new cases; 7,463 total
  • Etowah County: 42 new cases; 2,551 total
  • Tuscaloosa County: 29 new cases; 4,821 total
  • Mobile County: 28 new cases; 11,568 total
