70 Coronavirus Deaths Confirmed In Alabama Over Last 2 Days

With 27 COVID-19 deaths reported Thursday, the 2-day death total in Alabama reached 70.

MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmation of 27 deaths from COVID-19 Thursday means that Alabama has now reported 70 COVID-19 deaths over the last 48 hours.

Wednesday's tally of 43 deaths was among the highest single-day totals the state has reported since the pandemic began. The ADPH has confirmed 1,516 deaths from COVID-19 since March.

Total, Alabama has confirmed 83,495 cases of the virus, after adding 1,923 new cases Thursday. Over the last two weeks, Alabama has confirmed 21,956 new cases, which is below the state's 2-week average in July.

A significant portion of the nearly 2,000 new COVID-19 cases reported in the state Thursday came from Jefferson, Mobile and Madison counties, which combined for 602 new cases over the last 24 hours.

The counties reporting the most new cases Thursday:

  • Jefferson County: 249 new cases; 10,939 total
  • Mobile County: 196 new cases; 7,879 total
  • Madison County: 157 new cases; 4,658 total
  • Baldwin County: 119 new cases; 2,984 total
  • Montgomery County: 72 new cases; 5,957 total
