74-Year-Old Woman Fights Off Attacker In Midfield

A 74-year-old woman fought off an attacker in a Midfield parking lot by grabbing the suspect between his legs.

MIDFIELD, AL - Nobody wants to think they will be the victim in a robbery or attack, but it is helpful to have a plan in place in case it happens. That is exactly what 74-year-old Brenda Stinson had, and she used it Wednesday when a would-be attacker approached her in the parking lot of a shopping center in Midfield.

"I grabbed him between his legs. I grabbed him good between his legs,'' Stinson said in a report by Alabama Media Group. "That's always been my plan because that's a man's weak spot, but I didn't know it was going to come true. I know he's going to be sore."

The incident happened Wednesday morning at the shopping center on Phillips Drive. Stinson said she had bought her groceries at Piggly Wiggly and went to next door to buy her medicine at the pharmacy. When she got back to her SUV, the suspect approached her.

Stinson said she was grabbed and the suspect reached for a pouch that contained her money. The two fought for a moment, and Stinson "grabbed his weak spot," so to speak. Eventually, passers-by saw what was happening, and one man came to Stinson's aid.

"That's when folks started running toward me,'' Stinson said. "This man came and grabbed him and then he took him and he throwed him to the ground."

The man, William Daniels, kept the suspect pinned face down on the ground until Midfield police arrived. Sgt. Jesse Bell said detectives are working to obtain formal warrants against the suspect.

Paramedics checked on Stinson at the scene and released her in good health.
