82 Pounds Of Meth Seized During Traffic Stop
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office seized 82 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of nearly $1.5 million.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office seized 82 pounds of methamphetamine with an estimated street value of nearly $1.5 million. during a traffic stop last week.
Members of the Sheriff’s Highway Safety Unit stopped a vehicle for erratic driving on Interstate 59/20 near mile marker 104 March 29. The driver of the vehicle granted consent to search for drugs, during which a large bag containing several smaller bags of Mexican candy was discovered in the trunk. Deputies noticed the candy felt granular, and on closer examination it was discovered that the candy packages contained methamphetamine.
The driver of the car was identified as 56-year-old James Robert Fields of Memphis, Tennessee. He was arrested and charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine. He remains in the Jefferson County Jail with $200,000 bond.
