Activist Walking From Atlanta To Memphis In Honor Of MLK

Activist Terrence Lester is making a 386-mile journey on foot from Atlanta to Memphis for the 50th anniversary of the death of MLK Jr.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - It has been one week since social justice activist and founder of Love Beyond Walls, Terence Lester, left Atlanta to embark on a 386 mile journey on foot to Memphis in honor of the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s assassination. Lester was making his way through Alabama over the weekend, and expects to conclude his march with a press conference arriving at the historic Lorraine Motel - the site of King's assassination - on Wednesday, April 4th at 10 a.m.

“Dr. King believed that the next step towards equality was to eradicate a system that even 50 years later today, still keeps people enslaved to poverty. Systemic poverty is a civil rights issue affecting millions of people across the nation,” Lester said. “This march is a testament to Dr. King’s legacy and sheds light on the harsh realities of homelessness, food insecurity and poverty. It is time for the next generation to pick up the baton and we are on the front lines to leading the charge.”

While walking through Birmingham this past weekend, Lester visited the 16th Street Baptist Church where four girls were murdered by KKK members during the Civil Rights era, and he made his way through the city to soak up Birmingham's rich history in the fight for civil rights in America. Lester continues his march through Alabama this week.
