Afternoon Shooting In Birmingham Prompts Homicide Investigation
Birmingham police are investigating a deadly shooting that took place Monday afternoon.
BIRMINGHAM, AL — One person was killed in a shooting in Birmingham Monday afternoon, marking the city's 65th homicide of the year.
The shooting happened just after 1:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Gamma Street.
Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said South Precinct officers found that multiple gunshots were heard at the location and a female driving a small silver sedan fled the scene.

Mauldin said police also received reports of a physical altercation prior to the shooting. The shooter later turned herself in at the Birmingham Police Administration Building.
The shooting victim was taken to UAB Hospital and was later pronounced dead.
