AL Coronavirus: Birmingham Mayor Declares State Of Emergency
"Working together, with calm and compassion for others, we will move through this situation," Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin said.

BIRMINGHAM, AL—Following growing concerns and cases of the coronavirus in Alabama, Birmingham Mayor Randall L. Woodfin issued a state of emergency Monday.
“These are unprecedented times for our city and our world. We are working closely with public health experts to take the most effective steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our community," Woodfin said during a news conference.
The mayor is encouraging Birmingham residents to remain calm and take the advice of the Centers for Disease Control as well as state and local public health leaders.

"Working together, with calm and compassion for others, we will move through this situation," the mayor said.
According to the mayor, based on the information his office has received from public health experts, he is recommending that there be no in-person events that consist of 25 people or more in the city in order to reduce the spread and impact of COVID-19.

He also suggested that residents practice social distancing and follow CDC guidelines for personal hygiene.
