Alabama Adds 700 New Coronavirus Cases, 4 Deaths

MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public HEalth again reported fewer than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases Friday, the fourth day in a row with new cases under the 4-digit threshold. Only one county posted more than 100 new cases of the virus Friday.

Total, the state has confirmed 102,196 coronavirus cases, with 16,549 of those cases reported in the last two weeks. The four deaths reported Friday bring the state's COVID-19 fatality total to 1,825.

In the last two weeks, 164,671 tests have been administered in the state, which means the positive rate over that span stands at roughly 10 percent.

In the last 7 days, Alabama has reported fewer than 1,000 new cases of the virus more often than not, with daily totals the last week looking like this:

• August 8: 1,815 new cases
• August 9: 1,122 new cases
• August 10: 1,665 new cases
• August 11: 536 new cases
• August 12: 875 new cases
• August 13: 695 new cases
• August 14: 700 new cases

Friday, the counties posting the most new cases:

• Jefferson County: 104 new cases; 13,682 total
• Mobile County: 89 new cases; 10,836 total
• Baldwin County: 47 new cases; 3,791 total
• Houston County: 34 new cases; 1,493 total
• Shelby County: 33 new cases; 3,414 total
