Alabama Adds 969 New Coronavirus Cases, 9 Deaths

MONTGOMERY, AL — Alabama added 969 new COVID-19 cases to its total Wednesday, staying under 1,000 for the fifth time in the last week. The state has averaged fewer than 1,000 new cases a day for the last two weeks.

Alabama's new case total Wednesday was largely produced by two counties — Jefferson and Mobile counties — which reported a combined total of 265 new cases of the virus. Tuscaloosa County saw a spike in new cases as well Wednesday.

The Alabama Department of Public Health also confirmed nine deaths from COVID-19 Wednesday, bringing the state's fatality total to 1,876.

Total the state has confirmed 106,784 cases of COVID-19 since testing began in March. Of those positive tests, 41,523 patients are presumed to have recovered from the virus.

The counties reporting the most new cases Wednesday:

• Jefferson County: 139 new cases; 14,337 total
• Mobile County: 126 new cases; 11,264 total
• Tuscaloosa County: 93 new cases; 4,617 total
• Calhoun County: 46 new cases; 2,028 total
• Etowah County: 41 new cases; 2,377 total
