Alabama Confirms 5,100 New Cases Of COVID-19 In Last 2 Weeks

Alabama has seen new COVID-19 cases spike significantly in the last two weeks, especially in Jefferson, Mobile and Montgomery counties.

MONTGOMERY, AL — Just a couple of weeks ago, Alabama passed 10,000 cases of COVID-19 statewide, but that milestone is long forgotten as the state has reported 5,100 new cases of the virus in just the last two weeks.

The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed 15,775 cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday afternoon. In all, nearly 200,000 tests have been administered statewide, with just over 70,000 tests administered in the last 14 days.

The ADPH has also confirmed 581 deaths from the virus.

  • May 22: 367 new cases
  • May 23: 373 new cases
  • May 24: 347 new cases
  • May 25: 639 new cases
  • May 26: 593 new cases

Montgomery County continues to see significant increases in new COVID-19 cases, reporting 74 new cases in the last 24 hours. Tuscaloosa County also saw a large increase, posting 32 new cases. Jefferson County also posted 23 new cases, and two more fatalities.

Here are the counties with the most cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday afternoon:

  • Mobile County: 2,062 confirmed cases; 19,912 tested; 112 deaths
  • Jefferson County: 1,661 confirmed cases; 35,253 tested; 97 deaths
  • Montgomery County: 1,406 confirmed cases; 8,485 tested; 34 deaths
  • Marshall County: 660 confirmed cases; 5,046 tested; 9 deaths
  • Tuscaloosa County: 614 confirmed cases; 8,758 tested; 12 deaths
