Alabama Continues To See Jump In New COVID-19 Cases
Three of the four highest daily totals of new COVID-19 cases have come in the last four days.
MONTGOMERY, AL — Alabama confirmed 332 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, which was the third highest tally for new cases in a day since the pandemic started. In fact, three of the four highest daily totals of new cases have come in the last four days.
Since the pandemic began in March, the five highest daily totals for new COVID-19 cases have been:
- May 7: 355 new cases
- April 9: 339 new cases
- May 8: 332 new cases
- May 5: 331 new cases
- April 12: 324 new cases

This spike in new cases comes at the same time that Gov. Kay Ivey amended her "safer-at-home" order which expanded the businesses in Alabama that could reopen.
The Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed 9,567 cases of the virus in Alabama, with 388 deaths as of Saturday evening.

The counties with the most confirmed cases:
- Mobile County: 1,444 confirmed cases; 11,821 total tests; 82 deaths
- Jefferson County: 1,108 confirmed cases; 21,475 total tests; 60 deaths
- Montgomery County: 557 confirmed cases; 4,033 total tests; 15 deaths
- Marshall County: 540 confirmed cases; 3,694 total tests; 8 deaths
- Lee County: 421 confirmed cases; 3,778 total tests; 30 deaths
