Alabama COVID-19 Cases Increase, Especially In Jefferson County

MONTGOMERY, AL — Jefferson County saw a surge in new COVID-19 cases Sunday, with more than twice as many new cases reported n the last 24 hours than the state's leader in cases, Mobile County.

Total, the Alabama Department of Public Health has confirmed 11,771 cases of the virus, with 488 confirmed deaths. In all, 156,350 tests have been administered statewide, with 88,102 tests conducted in the last two weeks. The ADPH has confirmed 4,104 positive results during that time.

Jefferson County had been tapering off in new case totals the last several weeks, but recorded 52 new COVID-19 cases from Saturday to Sunday. This was the highest number of new cases reported of any county in the state Sunday.

The counties with the most cases as of Sunday afternoon:

• Mobile County: 1,701 confirmed cases; 15,435 total tests; 101 deaths
• Jefferson County: 1,333 confirmed cases; 28,010 total tests; 74 deaths
• Montgomery County: 823 confirmed cases; 5,431 total tests; 20 deaths
• Marshall County: 624 confirmed cases; 4,425 total tests; 9 deaths
• Lee County: 449 confirmed cases; 4,539 total tests; 31 deaths
• Shelby County: 399 confirmed cases; 6,532 total tests; 19 deaths
• Tallapoosa County: 358 confirmed cases; 2,116 total tests; 57 deaths
• Tuscaloosa County: 345 confirmed cases; 6,666 total tests; 8 deaths
• Franklin County: 334 confirmed cases; 1,426 total tests; 4 deaths
• Chambers County: 328 confirmed cases; 1,443 total tests; 22 deaths
