Alabama Posts 3 Straight Days Of 3,000 New Coronavirus Cases

MONTGOMERY, AL — With Thursday's report of 3,351 new coronavirus cases overnight, the Alabama Department of Public Health has now reported at least 3,000 new cases of the virus for three straight days.

The state has a 33.7 percent positivity rate for its more than 12,000 tests administered in the last seven days, which ranks among the highest rate of positive tests in the country over the last week.

In addition to posting three consecutive days of 3,000 or more cases, the state also reported 60 or more deaths from the virus for three straight days, with Thursday's total of 65 fatalities from COVID-19.

Alabama has bow reported 3,776 deaths from COVID-19 since March. As of Thursday, 1,827 patients are hospitalized with the virus, the highest total number of hospitalizations since the pandemic began.

Jefferson County again led the way as far as counties with the most new cases Thursday, with 504 new cases of COVID-19, after posting 688 new cases Wednesday. Thursday and Wednesday represented the second highest and highest totals for new cases in a day in the county, respectively.

Jefferson County's new case totals Thursday were nearly twice as high as Madison County's total, which was the next highest at 290.

• Jefferson County: 502 new cases
• Madison County: 290 new cases
• Baldwin County: 178 new cases
• Tuscaloosa County: 164 new cases
• Mobile County: 158 new cases
