Alabama Ranked Among Worst States In U.S. For Retirement
A recent study shows Alabama is one of the worst states in the country for retirement.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - As the baby boomer generation exits the workforce in large masses every year, attemtion has turned to where in the country is the friendliest for retirees. Unfortunately for Alabama residents, the state ranks among the worst for retirement according to a recent study.
Alabama ranked as the 10th worst state in which to retire, with Kentucky ranking last:

- New Jersey
- Rhode Island
- Mississippi
- Arkansas
- West Virginia
- Louisiana
- New Mexico
- Hawaii
- Alabama
The retirement rankings, compiled by WalletHub, looked at affordability, health-related factors and overall quality of life. WalletHub says they compared all 50 states across 41 key indicators of retirement-friendliness. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale and assigned a weight. WalletHub then calculated each state's weighted average across all metrics to determine overall scores.

While Alabama ranked well in cost of living, the state ranked poorly in health care and quality of life. Life expectancy and percentage of workforce over the age of 65 were categories where Alabama was among the worst in the country.
