Alabama Reports 699 New Coronavirus Cases; Tops 1,900 Deaths
New COVID-19 cases have been trending downward since the statewide mask order was put in place July 15.
MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 699 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, the second day in a row reporting fewer than 1,000 cases, and the sixth time in the last week.
The state also confirmed 29 COVID-19 deaths Thursday, bringing the total number of fatalities from the virus to 1,905.
In the last two weeks, the state is averaging 946 new COVID-19 cases per day. When Gov. Kay Ivey's mandatory mask order began July 16, the state posted a 14-day average of 1,457 new cases per day.

Total, the state has confirmed 107,483 cases of COVID-19, and 891,813 tests have been administered since testing began in March. Of those who tested positive, 44,684 are presumed to have recovered from the virus.

None of Alabama's counties posted more than 100 new COVID-19 cases Thursday.
The counties posting the most new COVID-19 cases:
- Jefferson County: 82 new cases; 14,419 total
- Mobile County: 65 new cases; 11,329 total
- Calhoun County: 44 new cases; 2,072 total
- Montgomery County: 36 new cases; 7,293 total
- Elmore County: 34 new cases; 1,882 total
