Alabama School Of Fine Arts Welcomes New President

Dr. Tim Mitchell began his tenure this month as the new president of the Alabama School of Fine Arts.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — Alabama School of Fine Arts welcomed its new president this month, as Dr. Tim Mitchell began his tenure after interim president Ann Florie's term ended. Mitchell was hired after a 9-month search by the school.

Mitchell has more than 30 years experience in education. Most recently, he was the director of fine arts at Flint Hill School, an independent K-12 school in Fairfax County, Virginia. He served in a number of different leadership capacities during his 13-year tenure at Flint Hill School. In the fine arts program, he oversaw the budget, facilities, personnel/hiring, faculty evaluations, programming, performances, and strategic planning. As a member of the school’s leadership team, he worked on admissions, branding, community engagement, fundraising, and institutional advancement. He was also involved in curricular and policy decisions including developing evaluation systems and hiring practices, and efforts towards equity and inclusion.

Mitchell is a presenter and lecturer on emerging pedagogies and practices at higher education institutions such as Brown University, Georgetown University, Yale University, and an 18-year engagement at Harvard Law School. Mitchell has degrees from Dartmouth College, Georgetown University, and Cornell University.
