Alabama Tops 900 COVID-19 Deaths

Alabama has reported more than 10,000 COVID-19 cases in the last two weeks as the state tops 900 deaths.

MONTGOMERY, AL — The Alabama Department of Public Health has now confirmed more than 900 deaths from COVID-19. The state entered the weekend at 887 deaths from the virus and posted 905 fatalities Monday.

In all, Alabama has confirmed 36,682 cases of the virus statewide, with 10,425 of those cases coming in the last two weeks. Since testing began in March, 18,866 patients are presumed to have recovered from COVID-19 after a positive test.

Alabama reported 1,718 new COVID-19 cases Monday, but due to a delay in data reporting Sunday, that total includes more than just a 24-hour span.

Jefferson County has added 371 new cases to its total since Saturday, passing 4,000 total cases and becoming the state's leader in cases. Jefferson County has also confirmed 134 deaths from the virus, which also leads all counties in the state.

The counties with the most new cases in the last 48 hours:

  • Jefferson County: 371 new cases
  • Montgomery County: 145 new cases
  • Mobile County: 119 new cases
  • Madison County: 91 new cases
  • Tuscaloosa County: 80 new cases
