Alabama Unemployment: More Than $1.5 Billion Paid In 3 Months

Over the last three months, the Alabama Department of Labor has paid out more than $1.5 billion in unemployment benefits.

MONTGOMERY, AL — Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, unemployment in Alabama has skyrocketed, and the state reported Friday that more than $1.5 billion in unemployment benefits have been paid out in the last three months. A Birmingham Business Journal report said $1,597,770,137 has been paid to 292,493 claimants from March 16 to June 3.

The total over the last three months is more than the ADOL has paid out in the last seven years combined, according to the BBJ report.
