App-Based Parking Meters: Birmingham Considers Proposal

The Birmingham City Council may vote for a proposal that would make paying parking meters in the city as easy as downloading an app.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The days of sifting through ones car or purse for change to feed a parking meter could be over if a proposal is passed by the Birmingham City Council. A mobile app-based parking payment systemis on the table, according to a Birmingham Business Journal report.

The council's transportation committee voted to recommend allowing electronic payments for metered parking and recommended approval of an agreement with parking app ParkMobile.
