April Health Scores: 6 JeffCo Eateries Score 85 Or Below
Mold, insects, expired food - all of these are reasons why some restaurants in the area scored poorly on their April health inspections.
JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL - While a significant majority of local eateries pass their inspection by the Jefferson County Department of Health easily, there are some exceptions. In April, the health department inspected 190 restaurants in the area with only six scoring an 85 or below.
Here are the Jefferson County restaurants that scored 85 or lower in their April health inspection:
McDonald's; 734 Grants Mill Road, Irondale (75): Points were deducted for failure to post current permit in public view; food stored at improper temperature; interior of ice machine soiled with mold; failure to provide proper chlorine solution; missing handwashing sign at hand sink; live roach was inside the 3 compartment sink.

Hilton Garden Inn; 2090 Urban Center Parkway, Vestavia (80): Points were deducted for employee personal drinks stored on the make table cooler and on the food preparation table in the kitchen; Failure to maintain food at proper temperature; thawed, ROP packaged salmon stored in the RI cooler on the cook line; mineral scale build-up on most of the dish machine; failure to provide paper towels at each handwashing sink; failure to post a sign at all handsinks that notifies employees to wash hands.
Fig Tree Cafe; 3160 Cahaba Heights Road, Vestavia (80): Points were deducted for failure to provide an employee health policy that states what actions are necessary when an employee has a specific symptom or diagnosis related to diseases that are transmissible through food; food with mold on it, and food past expiration date stored in cooler; failure to maintain food at proper temperature; failure to keep nonfood contact surfaces of equipment clean; ceilings throughout the entire kitchen heavily soiled with food, dirt, and dust residue; exhaust hood filters are heavily soiled.

McDonald's; 1111 Chalkville Road, Trussville (83): Points were deducted for a worker not wearing a hair restraint; food establishment was found operating with active roof leakage onto the warewashing equipment; failure to provide wash solution temperature in a chemical sanitizing dishmachine at a minimum of 120 degrees; warewashing equipment is contaminated with drippage and splash from the roof leak above it; spilled trash on the ground under and around the compactor.
Miss Myra's; 3278 Cahaba Heights Road, Vestavia (85): Points were deducted for failure to store employee personal drinks and food away from prep area; failure to maintain food at proper temperature; ice machine soiled with black slime residue; failure to provideeffective insect and rodent control.
Spare Time Trussville (Kitchen); 3600 Roosevelt Blvd., Trussville (85): Points were deducted for failure to maintain food at proper temperature; raw shell eggs stored above buttermilk; food Residue observed on the slicer stored on wall in food prep area; gnats observed in food prep area and in area where chicken bins are stored; improper lighting.
