Arrest Made In Deadly UAB Shooting

Birmingham police have arrested a man in connection wit the death of 20-year-old Destiny Washington.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of 20-year-old Destiny Washington on the UAB campus Friday. Birmingham police say Carlos Londarrius Stephens of Alabaster has been taken into custody and charged with capital murder.

According to police, around 9:40 p.m., officers were dispatched to Children's Hospital for a report of an adult gunshot victim, later identified as Washington, who arrived by way of private vehicle and was pronounced dead shortly after her arrival.

Police said a preliminary investigation suggests Washington was shot inside of a vehicle while in the parking lot of the Hill University Center.

Stephens was taken into custody after turning himself in on Saturday.
