Arrest Made In East Birmingham Homicide

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A man has been arrested and charged with capital murder after a homicide in east Birmingham Sunday. Cordarius Elliot, 28, is accused of killing 26-year-old Jacqkingman Darnell Bennett.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin of the Birmingham Police Department said just after 10 a.m. Sunday police found Bennett unresponsive on the side of the road near a wooded area with gunshot wounds. Birmingham Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and pronounced Bennett dead on the scene.

The police investigation led to the arrest of Elliot, who is being held at the Jefferson County Jail without bond.
