ASFA is a public, tuition-free school for Alabama students in grades 7 -12 with admission by audition.
Students who excel or are passionate about one of the school’s 6 specialty areas: creative writing,
dance, math-science, music, theatre arts or visual arts are encouraged to attend the Open House. The
school serves students from across Alabama by offering dormitory space to students outside the
Birmingham metro area.

More than fifty years ago, Governor Lurleen Wallace helped ASFA get its start by allocating funding for an
after-school arts enrichment program. The school has since turned into one of the premiere arts and
sciences schools in the country.
