BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Birmingham City Council approved a resolution Tuesday granting entertainment district status for the Avondale business area. The area joins Pepper Place, Uptown and Five Points South as entertainment districts in Birmingham.

What the designation means is that now, Avondale businesses with alcohol licenses can sell alcohol to be consumed off-premises within certain boundaries and hours.

Avondale has, for the last two years, hosted the Secret Stages music festival and with venues such as Avondale Brewing Co., Saturn and 41st Street Pub, the new designation could pave the way for more festivals and similar events.
