Bessemer Teen Killed In Sunday Night Shooting
A Bessemer teen died Sunday night after he was shot while in a vehicle with friends.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A Bessemer teenager was shot and killed Sunday night while riding in a vehicle with friends. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as 18-year-old Jaterrius Dewayne Conwell.
The shooting happened after 10 p.m. in the 500 block of 11th Street North, according to an Alabama Media Group report. The initial story given to police was that the group of friends were in a vehicle playing with a gun and it fired. There were four people inside the car and other witnesses standing outside the vehicle.
The friends reportedly drove Conwell to UAB Medical West where the victim arrived at 10:26 p.m., was stabilized and then transferred to UAB Hospital’s Trauma Center in Birmingham where Conwell was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m.

Bessemer PD investigators are in the process of interviewing the witnesses. No arrests have been made.
