Here are the top 3 stories today in Birmingham:
- Birmingham-based and woman-owned beverage company, Better Kombucha, received a top award from the Good Food Foundation. Its apple-flavored kombucha, one of the first that was tweaked and sold, won a 2022 Good Food Award. The awards highlight the best of the best across the nation in 18 categories. (Bham Now)
- Birmingham will offer resources for the homeless and pets as temperatures drop this weekend. There will be a temporary warming station open from Friday to Sunday at the Greater Birmingham YMCA, where they will also be offering free food. The city hopes to open up a permanent site for the warming station soon. (WIAT - CBS42.com)
- Three Alabama men, including 36-year-old Randy Hasan Abdurrahim of Birmingham, were charged in unrelated cases involving federal weapons and drug charges. An April 2021 indictment stated that Abdurrahim illegally possessed a Smith & Wesson .380 pistol. In September, Abdurrahim reportedly possessed 50 grams or more of substances containing methamphetamine and fentanyl with the intent to distribute in Jefferson County. The maximum penalty for possession with the intent to distribute a controlled substance is 20 years in prison. (Birmingham Patch)

- Greater Birmingham Humane Society is calling for lost/stolen pet forms by Jan. 31. With over 100 animals in GBHS's care from the Nauvoo, AL hoarding case, GBHS and WCHS will soon start to find these animals the loving forever homes they deserve. (Facebook)
