Birmingham-Area Schools Closing Due To Weather Threat

Several area schools have announced they will close early Wednesday due to the threat of severe weather.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The threat of severe weather Wednesday across Alabama has prompted most of the schools in the Birmingham area to announce early dismissals for the day Wednesday.

The National Weather Service has placed a significant part of the state in a "moderate risk" (level 4/5) category. This includes Birmingham, Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, Anniston, Gadsden and Florence. The rest of the state is in either an enhanced or slight risk.

Storms will be capable of producing large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.
