Birmingham City Council Passes Budget 6 Months Into Fiscal Year
The City of Birmingham has finally passed its budget six months into its fiscal year.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Birmingham City Council finally passed its 2017 budget six months after the city began its fiscal year. The city's leadership has undergone significant change since the fiscal year began, with three new council members and a new mayor.
The $428 million budget includes additional funding for Birmingham City Schools, as well as cutting the remainder of the year's funding to the Birmingham Construction Industry Authority. New mayor Randall Woodfin said the city's relationship with the BCIA is not over, but the budget for the non-profit will be cut.
According to a report by Alabama Media Group, the new budget also cut $100,000 from the Non-Violence Initiative.

Woodfin said the majority of the cuts to the mayor's office, which total about $606,731, came from a reduction in personnel. The city also adjusted for cost of living raises for city employees.
