Birmingham Civil Rights Institute CEO Resigns

After five years, Birmingham Civil Rights Institute President and CEO Andrea L. Taylor has resigned.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — After five years at the helm of one of Birmingham's most-visited attractions, Andrea L. Taylor has resigned as CEO of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. The Birmingham Business Journal reported Monday that Taylor will continue to advocate for the goals of the BCRI.

Taylor came to the BCRI in 2015 with the expectation of serving three to five years, led the organization through some key milestones:

  • Setting an attendance record in 2019 with 1.5 million visits
  • The designation of the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument
  • Launching an immersive digital learning project with Apple
