BIRMINGHAM, AL — Avondale has been a nightlife hot spot for several years now, and the Birmingham City Council may designate the area as an entertainment district later this month. A hearing is set for June 23 to discuss the designation.

If approved, Avondale would become the city's fourth entertainment district, after Pepper Place, 5 Points South and Uptown. The city approved 5 Points South as an entertainment district in December of 2019.

What this means for Avondale is that participating businesses in the area with alcohol licenses may sell alcohol to be consumed off-premises within certain boundaries and hours.
