Happy weekend, Birmingham!

Enjoy some much-needed time off and go pay a visit to one of our great local establishments to wind down and catch up with friends.

Today we have for you A TON of local events to attend this weekend, Dr. Fauci talking to Alabamians, and some useful weather info for this weekend.

Slight Risk For Severe Storms Saturday in Birmingham, Michael Seale writes. The Birmingham area is in a "slight risk" zone for severe weather Saturday, according to the National Weather Service. "It looks like we will have two rounds of rain and storms," meteorologist James Spann said. "The first will come through during the early morning Saturday, in the general time frame from 1 a.m. until 11 a.m. These storms could produce strong winds and hail, and there is some risk of an isolated tornado or two.” Read more from Michael Seale about this weekend’s weather here.

Dr. Anthony Fauci addresses low vaccination rates in Alabama in an exclusive interview on AL.com with Ivana Hrynkiw. Fauci says that Alabamians should trust the science and that getting the vaccine is their ticket back to normal life. He says, “Alabamians want to get back to what they do, what they enjoy in life”. The full interview is in the link above and has a video of Fauci discussing Alabama’s path back to normalcy.

The city of Birmingham makes a new promise to crack down on the prevalent gun violence. The mayor, police, and sheriff are coming together to address the many ways in which gun violence persists, which includes nuanced situations such as people hiding guns in cars that are later stolen. Some of the many solutions include an improvement in the witness protection program and prevention programs for those who have been convicted of crimes to turn them away from gun violence. Events:

- Birmingham’s largest outdoor arts festival continues this Saturday from 10am-6pm and on Sunday from 10am-5pm at Sloss Furnace this year. For more information and tickets for Magic City Art Connection click here.

- Saturday is Jefferson County’s Household Hazardous Waste Day from 8-11:30am. Locations include: First Baptist Church of Gardendale, Classic Car Motoring, and City of Bessemer Laydown Yard. If you have any questions about what to drop off, you can call the Jefferson County Stormwater Program at 205-325-8741.

- This Saturday from 9-11am, the Birmingham Walking Tour Series continues with 5 Points South. The cost is $40; $25 for Vulcan Members. More information and tickets here.

- Saturday at 8am is the Red Shoe Run: Rockin’ 5K in Homewood. Click here for more info.

- The Spring Wine Festival at Corbin Farms has been rescheduled for this Saturday from 11am to 8pm. The cost ranges from $7-$25. More information here.

- Corks & Chefs from Saturday to Sunday 11am-3pm at Sloss Furnace. This event is “A Taste of Birmingham” where you can find the culinary arts paired with wine, spirits, cocktails, an craft beer alongside Magic City Art Connection this weekend. More info here.

- 2021 Mudbugs and Music this Saturday from 1-6pm at Cahaba Brewing Co. The cost is $25 but includes a plate of crawfish AND sides. Click the link.
