Birmingham Man Arrested For Burglary And Assault

BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reported that 23-year-old Lederrick Turner of Birmingham was arrested for burglary and assault involving domestic violence Sunday night. Just before 7:30 p.m. Sunday, deputies responded to a report of a burglary at a home on 5th Place NW in Center Point. It was reported that a man had broken into the home and assaulted an adult female victim.

That victim reported that earlier in the day she received a text message from a friend asking her to call 911 because she was being assaulted by her boyfriend, Lederrick Turner. She called 911 and because they live in the Birmingham City Limits, Birmingham Police responded. Turner had fled the scene before police arrived, his girlfriend was transported to an area hospital.

Shortly after that assault, Tuner began harassing the friend who called 911. She became frightened and called a friend who picked her up and took her back to his home. Turner went to the residence and began knocking on the door. He was told to leave but refused. One of the residents opened the door and Turner, armed with a handgun, forced his way inside. He ran to where his girlfriend’s friend was hiding and began yelling at her asking where his girlfriend was. When she told him his girlfriend was not there, he struck her in the head with the handgun and fled the home on foot.

Deputies developed information that Turner had gone to his mother’s home, which is where deputies eventually found him. The gun used was found under the mattress he was laying on. Turner was arrested for burglary 1st degree, assault 2nd degree, and certain persons forbidden to possess a firearm. He was also charged with two outstanding felony warrants for having failed to appear in court on prior burglary charges. Turner is being held in the Jefferson County Jail with bonds totaling $20,500.
