Birmingham Man Charged With Manslaughter In Thursday Homicide

A Birmingham man has been charged with manslaughter in the death of Sanquez Anton Giddens.

BIRMINGHAM, AL — A manslaughter warrant has been obtained by Birmingham police for a man they say was involved in the death of Sanquez Anton Giddens Thursday. Derick Lamont King, 40, was taken into custody shortly after the shooting.

Sgt. Rod Mauldin said Giddens was found suffering from gunshot wounds just after midnight Thursday at 8533 3rd Ave North. He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Mauldin said an investigation suggests the motive in this homicide is narcotics related.

King is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
