Birmingham Man Charged With Sexual Abuse Of A Child

A 33-year-old Birmingham man has been arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a child.

BIRMINGHAM, AL - A 33-year-old Birmingham man has been arrested and charged with sexual abuse of a child. The arrest stems from a call on August 4, 2017, when deputies were called to a home in the Pinson Valley area to investigate a report of sexual abuse of a child. The female victim had come to her mother and reported that a family friend had been engaging in inappropriate sexual contact with her.

The case was investigated by Jefferson County Sheriff’s detectives, and on Nov. 29, Armando Escobarcontacted sheriff’s detectives through his attorney and agreed to turn himself in. The following day he turned himself in to detectives and was placed in the Jefferson County Jail to await formal charges.

On Friday, detectives presented the findings of the investigation to the District Attorney’s Office. Arrest warrants were issued formally charging Escobar with two counts of sexual abuse of a child under 12 and one count of sexual abuse by force. Escobar remains in the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $150,000.
